Man killed in Long Island City crash ID’d; teen passenger in critical condition

LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens –– A man was killed and a teen was critically injured after a car crashed into a truck Saturday morning, police said.

Police said they received a 911 call of motor vehicle crash on Skillman Avenue and Queens Blvd. around 5:50 a.m.

Steven Narvaez, 28, was killed in an early morning car crash in Long Island City, Queens on June 24, 2017.

Arriving officers found the 28-year-old male driver, unconscious and responsive, and a 17-year-old female passenger with injuries to their bodies. EMS rushed the victims to the hospital, where the man later identified as Steven Narvaez died. The teen victim is in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation found a 2013 Toyota Corolla sedan, traveling westbound on Skillman Avenue, was approaching Queens Blvd. at the same time a 2007 Freightliner tractor was traveling northbound on Queens Blvd. approaching the Skillman Avenue intersection. The sedan struck the truck within the trailer area and came to rest underneath the truck.

The truck driver remained at the scene and was uninjured. There were no arrests.
