NEW YORK — Long Island Rail Road service is returning to normal after signal problems created cancellations and delays for the Monday evening commute.

The MTA announced around 7 p.m. that eastbound trains were experiencing 10-15 minute delays from Penn Station because of a signal problem in one of the East River tunnels.

The MTA had suspended westbound service between Jamaica and Penn Station at the height of rush hour.

It was not immediately clear what caused the signal problems.

Commuters are urged to check the MTA website to find out more information about their trains.
