Coney Island’s Luna Park evacuated after Astrotower sways in wind

CONEY ISLAND (PIX11) — Officials from the FDNY, NYPD, the Department of Buildings and the Luna Park amusement park are meeting Wednesday afternoon to look over testing results on the Astrotower’s structural integrity.

They should have made a determination by “early afternoon” as to whether or not Luna Park can reopen in its entirety.  If it does reopen, it will be after 1 P.M. at the earliest.

The park was evacuated Tuesday after the tower, which opened in 1964, was noticeably swaying.
