The Brooklyn Nets may have acquired Duke’s Mason Plumlee as part of Thursday night’s NBA draft, but it was the big trade between Brooklyn and the Boston Celtics that was center court.
As part of the blockbuster trade Thursday night, the Nets will obtain Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry. The Celtics will receive Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Reggie Evans and Keith Bogans, as well as three first-round draft picks in 2014, 2016 and 2018.
The deal will become official on July 10th for salary-cap purposes. When it goes through the Nets’ payroll will climb to $93 million for nine players and could reach $100 million by the time they finish filling the bench. This would trigger a luxury tax of about $84 million.
