(CNN)– An investigation is underway in Arizona involving a little boy, his father and a loaded gun.

Police say a 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 35-year-old dad inside this home in Prescott Valley on Friday.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Justin Stanfield, a military veteran who served in the army special forces.

Stanfield stopped by a friend’s house with his son in an unannounced visit.

The friend, also a military vet, had a loaded gun in his home that was not secured.

Police say the little boy found the gun pretty quickly and when he went to ask his dad about it, the gun went off.

Police are still investigating, but they’re calling it a tragic accident.
