MANHATTAN (PIX11) – Mayor Bloomberg was on the war-path today. For more than 45 minutes, the mayor took aim at anyone and everyone who has criticized the NYPD’s stop-and-frisk policy during a speech at police headquarters.
everyone from politicians to the media, for failing to cover murders in poor and minority communities.

“When police stop and ask a 17-year-old a question, based on a reasonable suspicion of a crime–there is outrage. Yet when a 17 year old is standing on a street corner near his home at 8:15 in the evening and gets shot and killed–there is silence,”  Bloomberg told an audience of NYPD brass.

“Over the past 11 years stops have taken 8,200 illegal guns off our streets, and murder by guns has dropped dramatically,” he added.

In the speech that was passionate, though likely entirely scripted, the mayor seemed to compare the New York Civil Liberties Union to the National Rifle Association, calling both of them extremists.

“Hard to believe, but the NYPD is under attack,” Bloomberg said. “Probably because this is an election year. The attacks most often come from people who play no constructive role in keeping our city safe, but rather view their jobs as pointing fingers from the steps of City Hall.”

City Council Member Jumaane Williams responded to the mayor’s hard-line stop and frisk stance, calling it a “skewed policy.” Saying the mayor wants New Yorkers to believe “our city has to choose between better policing and safer streets. Between saving lives and constitutional rights.”

Williams says we can have both.

That is an awesome track record but yet the city cannot have only minorities feeling targeted as criminals . I say criminals because that's how they are treated while being stopped .

Bloomberg is an IDIOT and should be put in a mental institution!! The man who tried to ban soda needs to wake up. As a victim of stop and frisk, I can assure you it gets abused horribly. They frisked me and my g/f, called her a prostitute, and then searched my car thoroughly. And they found absolutely nothing and let us go. But that's the kind of behavior Bloomberg defends?! Old geriatric POS needs to get out of his multi-million dollar lifestyle and see how the average person lives.

I usually do not leave a response, however I looked at some of the responses here Bloomberg takes
aim at Stop and Frisk critics | PIX 11. I actually do have some questions
for you if you do not mind. Could it be just me or do some of these
responses appear as if they are left by brain dead visitors?
:-P And, if you are writing at other sites, I would like to
follow everything fresh you have to post. Would you make a list of every one of
your social pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
