It was a wild morning for the NYPD. According to police at about 5 a.m. members of the NYPD robbery squad were following a van of suspects they believed were responsible for a string of armed robberies in Queens and Long Island.  As of this writing, one of the two men are still on the loose.

The robberies took place  in mid-March during the overnight hours at three different Queens gas stations.    During each of the robberies, one of the suspects would enter the gas station and take out a gun, then demand the cash from the register.   The second suspect would wait outside in the black getaway van.

Wednesday morning, the two suspects led authorities on a wild chase the wrong way on the Clearview Expressway – before they cornered the van right outside Kissena Park in Flushing, Queens.

The two suspects ditched the van  and ran into the park.  Cops quickly arrested one of the armed suspects – but it was the second that led police on a manhunt for hours inside the park.

Police searched on foot, in the air, and with K-9 units blocking off each entrance and exit to the park, which was evacuated and local streets were shut down.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m., cops wrapped up their search from inside the park with no luck – NYPD officials now say they are searching for the second suspect outside the park.

Police have not released the identity of either of the men at this time as the search continues.
