One hundred forty six workers – mostly young immigrant women — died in what was one of the worst workplace disasters in American history. The fire led to reforms in workplace safety and more workers rights.

On Wednesday, city leaders honored those who lost their lives as well as highlighted how far we have come.

Descendants of the victims were among those who read the names of those who perished.
