NYC holds competition to create a better payphone

For a society addicted to cell phones, it has probably been a while since any of us have really considered the old-fashioned payphone.

The city says although payphone use has decreased significantly in the past decade, there is still great use for the kiosks as thousands of New Yorkers use them everyday and in emergency situations.

Which is why the city has a contest going on to redesign New York’s payphones before the current vendor agreement goes out in 2014.
