New Jersey Transit train and truck collide; several injured

A New Jersey Transit crash injured several people, two seriously when a train collided with a tractor-trailer carrying paint in Little Falls,  authorities said.

Transit officials say the  truck driver tried to back up as the gate came down about 8:15 a.m., but the train could not stop.

The accident remains under investigation.

A school crossing guard was hit by debris in the accident. The guard and a New Jersey Transit worker were among the two serious injuries.

Authorities are still assessing the potential impact to the evening commute.

The accident closed the Montclair-Boonton line.
