A 5-year-old girl from Pennsylvania has been suspended from school for threatening to shoot herself and a classmate with a Hello Kitty bubble gun.

According to the family’s attorney, the child made the remark last week but didn’t even have the toy with her.

The lawyer says the girl was questioned by school officials for three hours without her parents’ knowledge. She was then suspended for ten days for making, what the district called, “terrorist threats.”

The suspension was reduced to four days.

The Mount Carmel area school district issued a statement saying, quote, “We don’t comment on issues involving staff or students because of confidentiality.”

Does the child even know what she was doing is wrong? The knee jerk reactions with young children amaze me. Instead of throwing her out of school, meet with the parents and educate the child and classmates as to why what she did is wrong. We keep saying we need to protect the children but when an opportunity comes to educate, they blow it and throw a child, a 5-year old out of school for a "terrorists threats", and with a bubble gun no less. Wow, we are such a civilized and advanced society, aren't we.

Many people would consider what she did to not be wrong in the first place, and feel she was punished for no good reason. The same as punishing children for playing with water pistols or Super-Soakers. Especially the parents who gave their children the toys and play with them at home.

American’s, you’ve lost your Republic and have given in to fear and every type of irrational hysteria that destroys the national soul.

While it makes for good headlines, this type of reaction to a non-threat only serves to discount real problems. A “zero tolerance” attitude and policy stem from a zero intelligence mindset — a mentally lazy solution — as it requires no objective thought or analysis of the person, situation, or circumstances to determine what’s a real threat and what nothing more than innocent child’s play.

To put a 5 year old in a room with adults and question her without informing her parents how scared was that poor child. 3 hours I wonder if they waterboarded her It was an accusation of terrorism after all.
