Former Mayor Ed Koch will turn 88 on Dec. 12.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch has been hospitalized with a respiratory infection.

Koch was admitted to New York Presbyterian Hospital Tuesday afternoon and is being treated with antibiotics, according to his spokesman, George Arzt.

Koch spent three days at the same hospital  in September for treatment of anemia.

The former mayor, who served three terms from 1978 to 1989, turns  88 on Dec.  12.
